Volvo City Safety
Oh man, this is painful, especially since Royal Motor Sales has been selling Volvos for about 50 years now…
But what happened – happened, and we cannot take it back. So here is the story: Volvo has developed a new safety system, which they call “City Safety”. According to Volvo website, “At 18 MPH or less, City Safety detects a stopped or slower moving car in front of you, and applies the brakes”. I actually tested it myself on a new Volvo XC-60, and I can testify that it does work. You drive at a traffic speed, stare at a wall in front of you, brace the steering wheels with white knuckles stopping yourself from hitting the brakes, you get closer, closer… and the car stops! It stops gently about 3 feet from the obstacle, and saves you the hassle of pulling over, exchanging insurance information, and a couple of grand of body work.
So Volvo was introducing the new Volvo S-60 with this new technology, huge presentation and a lot of media. I am guessing that the driver got a bit too exited, and drove a bit too fast. I will let Youtube to tell the rest of the story:
